North Cardiff Cosmos Under 10 Girls are proud to announce a new two-year partnership with Latch, a local children’s cancer charity that will feature on the front and back of the team’s shirts and goalkeeper kits.
The sponsorship has been offered free of charge after the team’s parents and players raised the funds to purchase their new kit themselves. The initiative is a fantastic example of the club’s community spirit, with the girls choosing to use their shirts to support a cause that makes a real difference to families across South Wales.
To mark the partnership, Gray Hill, Latch’s Head of Fundraising, Marketing and Communications, recently joined the team at a training session at Llanishen Park to talk to the players about the charity’s work and the support it provides to children and their families.
A Charity Close to the Team’s Hearts
The idea came from coach Andy Evans, who suggested using the available sponsorship space to promote a local charity. Parents were invited to nominate organisations before voting took place, with Latch emerging as the clear favourite.
The choice holds particular significance for some of the team’s families, who have experienced first-hand the difference Latch can make during an incredibly difficult time.
Kieran and Cassie Edwards, whose daughter Eadie plays for the team, nominated Latch after seeing the support provided to their young nephew Billy and the wider family during his cancer treatment.
They said:
“We were so pleased to have the opportunity to suggest Latch as the girls’ charity sponsor, as they did so much for our nephew and family. Billy is now doing really well, and we are so thankful to the club and parents who chose Latch. We are hoping this helps to raise awareness of this amazing charity and to raise funds to help other families. Thank you all!”
Supporting Children and Families Across Wales
Based at the Children’s Hospital for Wales, just a short distance from the club’s home at Llanishen Park, Latch provides vital support to children with cancer and their families.
Its work includes free accommodation to help families stay together during treatment, grants to assist with additional costs such as travel and heating, and activities in hospital and the community for children and their siblings. The charity also provides family holidays and other opportunities to create positive memories and support family wellbeing during challenging times.
The partnership will help raise awareness of Latch’s work among the wider Cardiff community, while providing an opportunity for the team, their families and the club to support the charity over the next two years.
A Partnership Built on Community Spirit
Speaking on behalf of the team, coach Tristan Humphreys said:
“We are extremely proud to promote such a fantastic charity on our matchday shirts over the next two years. At Cosmos, we talk about the importance of being there for each other, particularly when times are tough, both on and off the pitch. That is exactly what Latch does for children and their families across Wales as they face some of the most challenging times imaginable.
“It is a testament to our parents and our fantastic girls that they were so keen to support the charity, and we look forward to welcoming Latch and its whole community to our team. After all, once a Cosmo, always a Cosmo!”
